Time needed:  40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 400 gr. cooked chickpeas
  • 100 gr. basmati rice
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tomatoes
  • Water, quantity needed
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 10 gr. fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of curry powder
  • 2 pods
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 2 green cardamom pods
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh cilantro (to taste)

Preparation

  1. Chop the onion into julienne then set aside.
  2. Grate the tomatoes, set aside.
  3. Heat a tablespoon of butter in a saucepan. Add the onion. Cook over medium heat until browned.
  4. Grate the garlic then add it to the pan.
  5. Add the grated ginger. Once the garlic is brown, stir in the tomatoes.
  6. Add the mustard seeds to the preparation then mix.
  7. Once the liquids have evaporated, add the curry and chickpeas.
  8. Then add 100 ml of water to the pan and cook for 10 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
  9. While you are making the chickpea curry, place a tablespoon of butter in another saucepan along with the cardamom and cloves. Let the spices toast lightly, making sure they do not burn. They would indeed then have a bitter taste.
  10. Add the rice and water. The ideal is to cover the rice by incorporating twice its volume in boiling water. Cook for 10 minutes on low heat or as long as the package indicates. Add salt and pepper.
  11. Serve the cooked rice and, on top, the chickpea curry. You can also sprinkle the whole thing with fresh cilantro.
